Day 2
Our wonderful hosts and their neighbours were out at 5:45!! 5:45AM to watch balloons, seriously balloons.
So, we all got up too and followed the herd. Physically awake but mentally after yesterday I was dead to the world. The morning was gorgeous as we stumbled to the field in our Timberlands (mum already complaining of blisters, Oscar contender in the making).
The field was so soggy but the amount of people was crazy. Thousands of people who were so well prepared with blankets, chairs and BBQ’s for their bacon rolls. Dad moaned like hell when he had to pay £20 for 3 bacon rolls and 2 cups of tea…you wouldn’t pay that in Coatbridge.
The balloons were very good, the first was Micheal’s ‘Thatcher cider’ which went up incredibly fast. Then more and more, unfortunately the wind changed and after about 10 minutes no more balloons. Only 28 went up in the end but it was enough for us. A great start!!
We were ready for off! Liz showed us some final bits for the ‘van’ and off we went. I think Dad was a bit nervous at the start, a lot of gadgets and controls but we headed for Liverpool and Anfield (boo).
A little traffic on the way and we were all feeling tired so we parked up and everyone but me had a snooze. I was watching Grown Up’s 2 and then……the biggest hail stones you have ever seen landed on the van, surprisingly they didn’t break anything. That woke them all pretty quick so we headed off to Anfield.
Again, I was pleasantly surprised, the guy that did the tour was brilliant, Tom & Harry were the youngest and he was so great with them. My favourite part was walking out on to the stadium because of the pure size of it and how green the pitch was. Dad suggested that Celtic had a bigger stadium and one of the tour guides shut him down with ‘we didn’t need the council’s money’, it got a little heated!!
Our main concern about going to Liverpool FC was we had to park it in Everton’s carpark, which is a lot closer than you’d think. Dad parked next to the biggest Rolls Royce in the hope that if anything was to happen it would go to the posh car.
Next to Liverpool docks. It reminded me so much of St Katherine’s Dock and we had a lovely walk round. Mum suggested stopping for light refreshments but funny enough Dad played deaf to her.
We headed for the ferry. There was a 2 hour wait to get on so once we had checked in we had our first meal in the van, spaghetti carbonara and it was delicious.
Our ferry was soooo good and we were 3rd on, which was great supposedly as your 3rd off, oh the excitement for Dad. Anyway, us children went to our cabin and got all tucked in, then Mum & Dad shot off for the bar.
And the winner for the best drama queen was Harry, but only because he moaned about his leg being sore, we all had a great day and there really wasn’t any dramas.
A much better start to our holiday!

Keep um coming Rosie 💜
