Day 4
A massive lie in. Orla, Tom, Harry and I slept in the van. Dillon the dog slept there too and wasn’t for leaving. Michelle had done a beautiful breakfast and by the time we had all showered it was 12:15. We then left for our big tour of Inishowen 100. Obviously, Dillon came too.

Liam has a spare car here so Mum, Dad, Tom & Harry went in that. Michelle, Orla Dillon & me went in the jeep and headed straight for Malin Head going through Culduff on the way. The weather was good and when we got there it was amazing, although we didn’t see anything about Star Wars, the view was very impressive. We walked round taking pictures when suddenly, the blackest cloud opened and everyone got absolutely drenched. You should have seen dad run, it was so funny!!
Mum decided Liam was great to have as a tour guide because he did what Michelle told him and when she said to go down a road that was posted Malin’s Wee House he did. In Mum’s words, ‘My Brian would never do that!!’
It really was a wee house, when we googled it they said it was a hermit’s cave and next to it was a statue of Mary. Inside were hundreds of pebbles with messages for loved ones that had died. One read,
I was his angel, now he is mine.
Liam now had the bug for touring, so we headed up a long winding road. Dad was so grateful for the car; the van would have been such hard work. We got to the top and the view was well worth it. More pictures and we were off again. This time we headed for the coast, a beach called 5 fingers.

I can honestly say it’s the nicest beach I’ve ever seen and no one was on it. The sky had cleared up and we started playing tag. We all loved it.
Off again, this time to Culduff beach, world famous for New Year’s Day swimming. By the carpark there was this lovely little hut on a post. It was full of second hand books and was called, the wee free library, so lovely.
We headed back to Gleneely to drop Dillon off, he was not impressed.
Mum has been going on about this place she visited back in November. It’s called Nancy’s Barn in Ballyliffin and back in June they won the best seafood chowder in the world.

Dad loves a chowder so off we went for a late lunch. You can’t book and to ask for a table of 8 was a bit of a long shot so us kids went up the road and had chicken and chips while the others waited for their table. It wasn’t long before they were at their table and Dad was trying the chowder. He said it was one of the best, but not a 100% best.
Note: If you go into any post office on the Wild Atlantic Way you can buy a passport and they will stamp every place you’ve been to. We got that in Ballyliffin too.
Off again, this time we were heading for the road that makes you think you are going backward when you’re going up the hill, Manmore Gap. Mum and me didn’t get it at all but the others said it worked. There was also a beautiful statue of Mary & Padre Pio.
It was time to head back to Canny mansions. Ethan was back from working in the bog and had his quad bike, the boys were desperate to go on it, and they did. First Tom, then Harry.
The adults all decided that they’d have a cheeky snooze after filling there bellies, before hitting the town again. Orla & Myself just Netflix’d and chilled.
To me this was the first day of our trip on the Wild Atlantic Way and what a start we had.

The Oscar for the most dramatic went to Liam for his total over the top reaction to his flight time being in the morning and not the afternoon, he was very dramatic!!
