Day 3 – 2 Ferries in 1 Day

Day 3

The alarm was set for 5.30am, we all had showers and to be honest they were desperately needed. We then headed straight down to the van and guess what, we weren’t 3rd off as predicted, but about 7th. The sun was shining and Belfast looked brilliant!

We found a camp site and carpark near Carrickfergus so we pulled in and Mum made the best bacon butties ever. We had 2 hours to kill until we went to the Titanic Museum so we tidied up and enjoyed the incredible weather. It was decided that plastic plates are no good as they need washing and paper plates are the way to go. This is our new priority, paper plates!!

It came around quick and we headed back into Belfast and to the museum. I was so excited and it didn’t disappoint. All the history, and how Belfast was the hub of ship building, it was incredible. Did you know it took one whole year to furnish the titanic? Mum offered to take a picture for an old couple and started talking to them. Turns out that the guys grandfather was an engineer in the boiler room of the Titanic and survived. He told us how he got to the top of the ship, jumped into the water and then someone grabbed him into one of the lifeboats. His name was Frederick Scott and we found his name on the survivors list. She told us when he went to the inquest he was ask 400 questions. A bit like mum after a day at school.

With the weather being so gorgeous we decided to take the scenic coastal route and it was so worth it. The views were incredible. We stopped at Carrickfergus Castle and took lovely photo’s, sadly Mum sang ‘I wish I was in Carrickfergus’ and ruined a perfect moment. We then figured out how to plug our phone into the speakers of the van and we had no choice but to listen to The Saw Doctors.

When we got to the Giant’s Causeway it was so busy. You couldn’t park anywhere, especially our van so we took the advice of a guy working there and headed for Bushmills where you can get a bus to take you back up. It was so worth it. We all loved it and after so many hours in the car, we were glad to get out and have a walkabout.

Boys fell asleep and then it was non-stop all the way to Magillian to catch our ferry to Greencastle.

We missed the first ferry so waited an hour for the next, it was lovely spot so didn’t care apart from the Canny’s were waiting for our big arrival, haha!!

We finally got to Gleneely with an escort from Ethan and Orla on their quad bike, very cool!!

As we pulled up Liam and Michelle were outside. It was so nice, Michelle had done a lovely buffet so we all sat and ate like savages, we were so hungry.

Michelle had organised for Ethan to babysit, so off went the adults and we had a great night having a midnight (10pm) feast. We heard the big kids come in around 1:30, they were quiet enough.

And the oscar went to Dad because he he wouldn’t stop for light refreshments. He might be winning it alot for that reason.
